Treatment Approach
David's approach can best be described as holistic, client-centered, and integrative. This approach allows for use of various different techniques tailored to suit the needs of any issues that persons come to therapy wishing to address. Some methods used include cognitive behavioral therapy, EMDR, mindfulness, visualization, and relaxation. David’s practice is inclusive of all persons, and he does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, or sexual orientation. David honors the codes of ethics of the American Counseling Association, the National Board of Certified Counselors, and the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling.
He holds a Master's Degree in Health and Human Development with a specialization in mental health counseling. He is licensed as a professional counselor through the Alabama Board of Examiners in Counseling. David also holds licenses as a professional counselor in the state of Tennessee and addictions counseling in the state of Montana. He is nationally board certified through the National Board of Certified Counselors (NBCC). Though David’s practice is general in scope, he has special training in addiction, codependency, chronic pain, trauma, loss, pathological gambling, coping skills, mindfulness, biofeedback, interventions, and relationship therapy. David has completed over 40 hours of training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) and has received Level I and II training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy. David has also completed Level I and II training in the Gottman Method for relationship therapy. He has had affiliation with The Alabama Counseling Association, The American Mental Health Counselors Association, and the American Academy of Pain Management. David is also a Certified Personal Trainer and Nutrition Coach with the National Academy of Sports Medicine which qualifies him to discuss goals around physical and nutritional issues as well, and he has been trained in auricular acupuncture.
